Walking The Walk On The Moonwalk

The Pink Pom Pom Sisters for Walk The Walk's Moonwalk: Melissa and Rachel

O-M-G! When it comes to distances, the number 26.2 always gives me a little fright! Why you ask? Because it’s the exact road distance of an Olympic marathon! This was also the exact distance for the Walk The Walk’s charity The Moonwalk challenge this past weekend, Saturday the 14th of May.

My dear friends Melissa and Rachel, along with 15,000 crazy women from all across London proper, stripped to their bras to walk in the dark, cold, damp dreary London weather to raise awareness and funds for such a devastating disease, Breast Cancer (BC). They say BC affects 1 in 8 women now but research says 1 in 3 people will be touched by Cancer in the very near future, if not already.

This was my eighth year to witness this overflowing sea of women dressed in nothing but walking pants, shoes, and bras in various sizes, shapes, colours, and wacky crazy designs. This year’s theme was Walk On The Wild Side, so animal prints were key!

The Moonwalk 2011 raised a staggering £1,932,540 and still counting! Please, if you haven’t already, spread the word on Melissa and Rachel fabulous trek – they made in good timing too – speed walking and finishing just under 7 hours!
