As London is gearing up for the Royal Wedding tomorrow, I thought this would be a perfect opportunity to think about myself and how I could polish the old, rough edges off! As many of you may not know, a patient undergoing chemotherapy and radiotherapy must stick to a strict natural grooming regime. Meaning no perfumes, dyes, preservatives, metals, anything that could compramise the medicine flowing through their bodies during and at least 6-8 months past the medical treatment period. So, I have had to be a bit creative in my research on special grooming techniques.
For all recipes, it’s best to have spare jars and containers available. In this article and throughout websites, if anyone has special sensitivities to food or nuts, it is recommended you contact and get advice from your doctor before trying any of these recipes and remedies.
From facials to foot scrubs to full body exfoliation, there’s something for every beauty procedure directly from your kitchen cupboards! Take Martha Stewart’s Body Oil Scrub with only 3 ingredients: Body oil, Sea Salt or Sugar, a Zest from your choice of citrus fruit, i.e. lemon. Spend less than a fiver to put this gift together, I guarantee you and your friends will cherish this little secret. It’s made from your own hands and you can control what goes in to your beauty products – no animal testing necessary!
And when has anyone ever told you coffee or caffeine was good for you? Well, I say never and this is enough! It’s time to give yourself an invigorating coffee scrub with just a few ingredients. Grind and brew fresh coffee. Enjoy a cup if you will. Use the freshly brewed coffee grounds (within 20 minutes), a teaspoon of body oil and sea salt. Apply mixture all over, scrub, rinse in shower and then moisturize.
And who’s up for a salad…of sorts? For healthy and fresh looking skin, vegetables and fruits are key ingredients in almost all facial beauty care products and routines. Cucumbers, for example, mostly used as eye pads are said to reduce swelling around and dark circles under eyes. To rehydrate skin, peel, deseed a cucumber, add chopped fresh mint, puree in food processor. Beat an egg white and add to puree, apply to face and leave for 20 minutes. Wash with lukewarm water and pat dry.
Apart from smelling absolutely delightful and refreshing, make yourself an orange and grapefruit facial, this will reduce swelling and revitalise your face. Peel and mash an orange and a grapefruit into a bowl and add 2 tsp of honey. Mix well and apply to face, leave for 20 minutes.
For a fabulous moisturising face mask, take an avocado, mash it up in a bowl, add 2 tsp of olive oil, 1 tsp of vinegar, and 1 egg white. Apply to face. Go read a magazine or call a friend, but after 30 minutes, rinse in luke warm water, pat face dry and moisturise.
